Friendswood Police investigating shooting incident at Stevenson Park

Friendswood Police are investigating an Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon case that occurred at the Stevenson Park basketball court at approximately 11:32 p.m. on October 10.  Stevenson Park is located in the 1100 block of S. Friendswood Drive with the basketball court being behind City Hall.

Police responded to the basketball court when witnesses reported gunshots being fired at persons who were playing basketball.  When police arrived, they found a 25 year old League City man on the ground.  He had a minor laceration to his knee and refused transport to the hospital after medics arrived.

Two men left the basketball court after they were called out for smoking cigarettes.  They returned 30 minutes later with a group of four to six other men. Four of the men were wearing bandanas covering their faces. One of the men that had been at the basketball court earlier threw a cigarette in a man’s face and assaulted him.  Others from the basketball court tried to break up the fight.  That’s when two males pulled out handguns and fired shots into the air.

One of the gunmen allegedly put his gun to one man’s head and threatened to kill him. Then, the group ran to their cars parked in the City Hall parking lot. As they ran, one of the gunmen shot toward the group at the basketball court hitting the victim in the knee.

The suspects were seen getting into a white four door passenger car and a silver passenger car.

The investigation is still on-going and investigators ask that anyone with information on the identities of the suspects contact Friendswood Police at 281-996-3300.
