Washington D.C.
Weber makes statement on second disaster relief bill
Press Release
Thursday, October 12, 2017

Washington D.C. – In the month since the last relief bill passed, our nation has seen more devastating natural disasters. H.R. 2266, Additional Supplemental Appropriations for Disaster Relief Requirements Act, addresses FEMA Disaster Relief Funds, cancels NFIP loan debt, grants emergency nutritional assistance to Puerto Rico, and focuses funds for wildfire relief. The Additional Supplemental Appropriations for Disaster Relief Requirements Act passed the House 353 to 69. Congressman Randy Weber (R – Friendswood) released the following statement:

“I was elected to represent the people of Texas District 14. We are currently in the middle of a disaster. Texas 14 is arguably ground zero for Harvey’s devastation. Harvey was the first in a series of disasters. Our nation is hurting from the West Coast, to the East Coast, to the Gulf Coast and beyond.

Through it all, the nation’s response has shown the true character of America. When times get tough, we stand together.

The House will need to act again on at least a third supplemental package. Sadly, the damage far exceeds the money we’ve currently funded. Our fellow Americans are dealing with a personal nightmare; as such, I will do everything in my power to fight for the needs of our people. I applaud my colleagues’ efforts to focus on short-term, emergency funding. The third package will need to be very different than the first two, though, if we want to see our nation truly recover.

I will not stand for Texas getting left behind. I will not let us be forgotten.”
