Remembering Jim Guidry Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership
Galveston County
Galveston City Council Workshop
by John David Suayan
Friday, October 13, 2017

Galveston City Council, during its workshop held on Thursday, discussed the city’s tree ordinance.

Council Member Dr. Craig Brown said that the Tree Committee is looking at classifying palm trees as protected under the ordinance. Listen (1:24)

The city council talked about Broadway Christmas decorations.

Mayor Pro Tem Terrilyn Tarlton-Shannon said a woman who works at her insurance office expressed a desire to see the thoroughfare spruced up for the holidays again.

“We talk about our Broadway businesses,” said Tarlton-Shannon. “We want them to shine all throughout the year. One of the good things we can do is maybe start off our Broadway beautification by doing Christmas on Broadway.”

The city council also discussed current and proposed policies regarding accrual and use of vacation leave and sick leave, agenda formats, neighborhood projects, and the Arts & Historic Preservation Advisory Board and the Commission of the Arts.

The city council met in executive session to discuss personnel matters, but took no subsequent action.
