Randal Ogrydziak Hired to Head Security, Facilities,
and Regulatory Compliance at Port of Beaumont

BEAUMONT, Texas – On October 2, 2017 the Port of Beaumont welcomed retired U.S. Coast Guard Captain, Randal Ogrydziak, to the team as the director of security, facilities, and regulatory compliance. Ogrydziak recently retired as a senior Coast Guard officer with 38 years of experience leading large, operationally complex, integrated military, law enforcement, and emergency management organizations in today's dynamic global response environment.

Ogrydziak previously served as Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur from July 2014 thru June 2017. As Captain of the Port, Officer In-Charge of Marine Inspections, Federal Maritime Security Coordinator, and Federal On-scene Coordinator, he directed all maritime safety, security, and environmental response missions throughout South East Texas and South West Louisiana.

Ogrydziak had a broad and varied Coast Guard career. In 1979 he enlisted in the Coast Guard. His first assignment was aboard the Coast Guard Cutter RUSH, where he learned the fundamentals of shipboard engineering systems while on patrol in Alaskan waters. Subsequent assignments included Coast Guard Base Milwaukee as a facility maintenance supervisor, National Strike Force Dive Team as a salvage diver and oil-hazmat responder, and Marine Safety Office Honolulu as a port operations supervisor and an oil-hazardous material response team leader.

Upon graduating from Officer Candidate School in 1990, Ogrydziak served as the Pacific Strike Team’s Chemical Division Response Officer and Operations Officer deploying to oil and hazmat releases throughout the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and South-Pacific Trust Territories. While stationed at Marine Safety Office Honolulu, Ogrydziak earned his marine inspector qualifications and oversaw the submersible passenger vessel inspection program. After graduating from the University Of Hawaii in 1999 with a Master of Public Health Degree specializing in Environmental and Occupational Health, Ogrydziak served as the Safety and Environmental Health Officer for Coast Guard forces throughout Hawaii, Guam, Saipan, American Soma, Japan, and Singapore.

From June 2003-August 2009, Ogrydziak served as Chief of Response and Security, and as Executive Officer of Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur, Texas. He was responsible for maritime safety, waterway management, port and coastal security, vessel inspections, and environmental protection of South East Texas and South West Louisiana.

From August 2009-May 2012, Ogrydziak served as the Supervisor of the Coast Guard’s Liquefied Gas Carrier National Center of Expertise in Port Arthur, Texas. The Center served the Coast Guard and Maritime Industry as a national focal point for the design, operations, and examinations of liquefied gas ships and vessels using natural gas as fuel. In 2010, Ogrydziak was deployed to the Deepwater Horizon response in Louisiana as an Incident Commander overseeing oil spill response operations in Jefferson Parish at Grand Isle.

From May 2012- June 2014, Mr. Ogrydziak served as Deputy Commander of Coast Guard Sector-Air Station Corpus Christi, where he coordinated land, air and maritime safety, security, law enforcement, search and rescue, vessel inspections, and response operations in South Texas from the Colorado River to the Rio Grande River.

“Randal Ogrydziak’s vast knowledge of the maritime industry makes him uniquely qualified to serve as the Port’s Director of Security, Facilities, and Regulatory Compliance,” says Port Director Chris Fisher “We are thrilled to welcome him to the team and know that his distinctive skillset will be a tremendous asset to the Port of Beaumont.”
