Houston firefighters rescue victim from manhole
who claims he was stuck there for about a week

HOUSTON - Houston firefighters were dispatched at 2:29 am on 10/16/2017 to 12401 S Sam Houston Pkwy and Dover Road for a trench/below-grade rescue.
 
It was determined that company doing repairs in the area found a man in a manhole and called 911. The victim stated he had been in the manhole for about a week.
 
Engine 68 arrived on a location of green space along the bayou running underneath the Sam Houston toll road and found the victim in a manhole approximately 10 to 12 feet deep. He appeared to have a leg injury.
 
Ladder 68 arrived and lowered the roof ladder into the manhole but the victim was unable to climb out. Rescue 10 then set up a tripod and the crew entered the manhole in a harness bringing the patient to safety. Hazmat was not needed. Crews contacted public works and notified them of several manhole covers missing along with high grass obstructing view.  The victim was transported to the hospital.
