Fall Events in Full Swing This Weekend, Closures throughout the City of Galveston

(GALVESTON, TX) October 17th, 2017 – This weekend the sound of street musicians, runners, and cyclists will fill the fall air on Galveston Island. As athletes come over the causeway and artists and musicians fill the streets downtown, expect closures across the city this weekend. These events will bring an anticipated 15,000 participants to the Island and we appreciate our resident’s patience with the street closures that are outlined below by date: 

Saturday October 21st: 

  • The Toughest 10K Galveston:
    • When: From 6:45am to 9:30am
    • Where: The race will begin and end at the Galveston Daily News facility on Teichman Road. The main closures will be the southbound turn lane of the I-45 Causeway, and the Teichman exit for the duration of the race. The lanes will close at 6:45am and immediately open following the race which will end no later than 9:30am. (Map attached for reference)

  • The 20th Annual ARToberFEST (Day 1 Closures):
    • When: From 10:00am to 6:00pm
    • Where: The festivities will be hosted by the Grand 1894 Opera House and held on Postoffice between 21st and 23rd Street, and 22nd Street between Market and Church. (Map attached for reference)
    • More information on the festival: This event is a juried fine art festival showcasing over 100 artists. For more information please visitwww.artoberfest.com

·         Galveston Bay Foundation’s Bike Around The Bay (Day 1 Closures):

    • When: From 11:30am to 7:00pm
    • Where: Over 1200 bikers will come in on the Ferry, travel west down Harborside to 25th, south to Seawall, west to 81st Street, and north on 81stStreet into Moody Gardens. Expect closures and delays along the route. (Map attached for reference)

Sunday October 22nd:

The 19th Annual ARToberFEST (Day 2 Closures):
  • When: From 10:00am to 5:00pm
  • Where: The festivities will be hosted by the Grand 1894 Opera House and held on Postoffice between 21st and 23rd Street, and 22nd Street between Market and Church. (Map attached for reference)
  • More information on the festival: This event is a juried fine art festival showcasing over 100 artists. For more information please visitwww.artoberfest.com
  • Galveston Bay Foundation’s Bike Around The Bay (Day 2 Closures):
    • When: From 6:00am to 9:00am
    • Where: Over 1200 bikers will leave Moody Gardens and head east on Stewart Rd, north on 61st Street, and west on I-45 with a police escort over the causeway. Expect closures and delays along the route. (Map attached for reference)
