Free METRO Shuttles to Disaster Food Relief Site

METRO is providing free bus shuttle services for Hurricane Harvey victims wishing to apply for short-term food assistance benefits.  The shuttles will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 18 - Friday, Oct. 20 for residents wishing to register for the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP)

The registration site, open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., is located at Alexander Deussen Park, 12303 Sonnier St.

Parking will be limited, but applicants can catch a free METRO shuttle from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. from the following locations:

JJ Robertson Family Life Center, 4810 Red Bud St.

Acres Homes Multi Service Center, 6719 W. Montgomery Road

The Tabernacle of Praise, 8814 Tidwell Road

The Texas Department of Health and Human Services says applicants must be in line by 7 p.m. to be considered.

The D-SNAP application extension resulted from cooperative efforts at all levels of government including the Department of Agriculture, U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, U.S. Representative Al Green, Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and state officials.
