LOCAL BAYLOR EXPERTS TO PRESENT ANNUAL UPDATE ON ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE

The 2017 “Update on Alzheimer’s Disease” with Drs. Joseph Kass and Melissa Yu will take place November 9 at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, 5555 Hermann Park Drive.  The program is free, and anyone interested in learning more about Alzheimer’s disease is welcome and encouraged to attend.

The annual lecture is sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter in partnership with the Alzheimer’s  Disease and Memory Disorder Center at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Kass is an associate professor of neurology, psychiatry and medical ethics; vice chair for education in the Department of Neurology; and associate dean of student affairs at Baylor.  Dr. Yu is an assistant professor of neurology and associate medical director of neurology at the Baylor Clinic. The physicians are both experts in their fields and will discuss the latest in Alzheimer’s disease research and the clinical management of the disease.

Alzheimer’s disease currently affects over 5 million Americans.  Though the disease is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States, it is the only one of the top 10 leading causes of death with no way to prevent, cure or treat it. “Alzheimer’s is relentless,” says Richard Elbein, CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association-Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter.  “We are thrilled to partner once again with the leaders of the Alzheimer’s  Disease and Memory Disorder Center to educate Houstonians about the landscape of dementia research and care.”

At the lecture, attendees will also have the opportunity to register for TrialMatch®, the Alzheimer’s Association’s free, easy-to-use clinical studies matching service that generates customized lists of studies based on the user-provided information.

Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. and the program at 7 p.m.

The event is supported in part by the Alzheimer’s Association Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter, and the Moselle and Milton Pollack Endowed Fund for Alzheimer’s Education in the

Alzheimer’s Disease and Memory Disorders Center at Baylor College of Medicine.
