Deer Park City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Wednesday, October 18, 2017

Deer Park City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to enter into an agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation for the construction, maintenance and operation of safety lighting systems along Highway 225.

The agreement is at no cost to the city, and allows the state to construct the safety lighting systems within the city at the state's cost.

The city council voted to approve an increase in the monthly storm water fee from $1.45 per equivalent residential unit to $1.60. The new rate will take effect November 1, with collections beginning with the December 2017 water bills.

The city council voted to amend the city's Zoning Ordinance to provide for special use permits for General Commercial Districts to allow the use of shipping containers as storage.

The permit includes qualifying conditions, including that the commercial use must be a minimum of 25 acres in size, shipping containers must be located behind the primary structure, and fenced and screened from public view, among other requirements.

The city council voted to award a $53,062 contract to The Merriam Group for mowing and edging services on city-maintained esplanades, entrances and rights-of-way on East Boulevard.

All action items were approved. All votes were unanimous with Council Member Rae Sinor absent. Agenda
