Mayor Sylvester Turner Featured in TV Ad for Houston City Bonds Campaign
Mayor asks Houstonians to "finally fix our pension crisis and focus on rebuilding our city. Vote for Propositions A through E."

HOUSTON – Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner is featured in a new television ad produced by the Lift Up Houston Campaign that is working to pass five propositions on the November 7 ballot.

"Let’s finally fix our pension crisis and focus on rebuilding our city," says Mayor Turner in the ad. "Let’s protect retirement plans for police, fire and city workers. Let’s do it all responsibly, with no new pension debt and no new taxes."

Proposition A, the pension bond, is the final piece of a bipartisan reform plan that would allow the city to pay off $8.2 billion in pension liabilities over thirty years. It protects taxpayers by capping the city’s costs and protects retiree pensions by stabilizing the system.

If Prop. A fails, Houston would be forced to pay an additional $1.8 billion to its pension systems. We could see layoffs of 2,200 police officers, firefighters and city employees and the potential closing of health clinics, libraries and community centers.

Propositions B, C, D & E would provide funds to repair and rebuild aging police and fire stations and equipment, parks, libraries, community centers and health clinics.

None of the propositions would require a tax increase.

Houston, if we can dream it, we can do it.

I’m Mayor Sylvester Turner. As we dig out from Hurricane Harvey, I need your help one more time.

Please join me on November 7th and vote FOR the City Bonds, Propositions A through E.

Let’s finally fix our pension crisis and focus on rebuilding our city. Let’s protect retirement plans for police, fire and city workers. Let’s do it all responsibly, with no new pension debt and no new taxes.

Vote FOR A through E: the City Bonds.
