Press Release
Monday, October 23, 2017

HOUSTON - Houston Public Works has been awarded the prestigious American Public Works Association (APWA) re-accreditation designation. The APWA Accreditation program recognizes public works agencies that go beyond the requirements of the management practices established nationally in the public works industry, as contained in the APWA Public Works Management Practices Manual. Houston Public Works initially achieved accreditation in June 2013.
Houston Public Works will receive the re-accreditation award from APWA Region VII Board Director, Maher Hazine at a presentation ceremony during the Council meeting on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 1:30 p.m.  The meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall which is located at 901 Bagby, Houston, TX  77002.
The accreditation of the Houston Public Works indicates the department met all applicable Accreditation documentation and practices over time. “The awarding of the APWA re-accreditation shows we have dedicated ourselves to concepts of improvement and in-depth self-assessment of department policies, procedures, and practices. The heroes of this prestigious APWA award are the public works staff whose mission is to provide public works services and programs that contribute to making the City of Houston the best city in the United States,” said Acting Public Works Director, Carol Haddock.
Houston Public Works is the 83rd agency in North America to be awarded.  In addition to Houston, other accredited Texas cities include Arlington, Austin, College Station, Flower Mound, Fort Worth, Haltom City, Plano and Rowlett.
For the Houston review, a team of public works professionals from Union Township, OH, Chesterfield, MO and Kansas City, MO completed a thorough evaluation of operations during their July 2017 site visit.
