News Release
Sunday, October 29, 2017

The City of Houston is working with a variety of local, state and federal agencies to help make sure that the World Series and the events surrounding it are fun, hassle-free and most of all, safe.  AlertHouston will be issuing daily event digests  from Friday, October 27 - Sunday, October 29th to help Houston residents navigate traffic, be aware of anticipated weather, and give them options for alternate forms of transportation. To opt out of these messages, update your preferences

Weather Update

The National Weather Service says that Houston can expect sunny conditions for Game 5 Sunday, with a daytime high near 70. Sunday evening will be clear and cool, with temperatures dropping into the low 50s.

Staying Safe

If you're in Houston for the World Series, or you live here, it's important to remember some basic safety tips:

  • Never leave valuables in vehicles unattended.
  • Make sure you stay hydrated, especially if you're engaged in a lot of outdoor activity.
  • Call 9-1-1 for emergencies and 3-1-1 (713.837.0311) for non-emergency help and information
  • Report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.  If You See Something, Say Something™, Make the Call.  Visit iwatchhouston.org for information on what to look for, and call 1-855-iwatch4 (492-8244) to report suspicious activity. For crimes in progress, call 9-1-1.

Don't Commit An Error When Buying Tickets To The Game

Illegal ticket sellers know that fan excitement can sometimes cloud judgement and buying sense. Fans need to be aware so they are not victims of those selling counterfeit tickets or poor quality unlicensed merchandise.

Among the safety tips to avoid becoming a victim:

  • Purchase from the venue or trusted vendors -- check the Better Business Bureau database at www.askbbb.org
  • Consider your source -- is it someone you know and trust or an established ticket broker?
  • Know the refund policy of the vendor or broker
  • Use payment methods that come with protection
  • Be wary of advertisements

As always, if you feel you were a victim, please report immediately to law enforcement.

Road Closures

As part of security procedures for the World Series, the City of Houston has closed some roads around Minute Maid Park. Some detours will be in place, but if you're not participating in World Series events, its probably a good idea to avoid the area.

Getting Around

Houston has a variety of great options for getting around during World Series events. The City encourages visitors and residents alike to try and use mass transit when possible.  In addition to being a less expensive option, it will help reduce traffic around Minute Maid Park.
