Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner today held a news conference to accept donations totaling $580,000 in support of Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts.

Turner noted that many people remain impacted by the storm, from the disabled to the middle class.

“They've exhausted their savings, and they're asking the question where do we go from here, and where will the help come from,” Turner said. “Your contribution this morning is an answer to some of those questions.” Listen (9:38)

Turner introduced Kenneth Wu, president of the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of North America, spoke, and announced the donation of $500,000 from the chamber, Stuf United Fund, and Golden Bank.

The Global Foundation of Taiwanese Business Women also donated $80,000.

The funds were donated to the Greater Houston Community Foundation, which includes the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. According to the foundation's website, the fund has raised $91,482,321.
