Texas City City Commission
by Garrett Bryce
Thursday, November 02, 2017

The Texas City City Commission on Wednesday voted unanimously to cast the city's 180 ballots in favor of electing Bruce Clawson to the Galveston Central Appraisal District Board of Directors.

Local taxing authorities nominated nine candidates for the five-member board. David Moss, Clay Morrison, Scott Brast, Victor Pierson and Kevin Corcoran, who currently serve on the board, were nominated for re-election, while Vaun Henry, Mary Trish Hanks, Roney McCrary and Clawson were nominated as possible new members. Galveston County Tax Assessor-Collector Cheryl Johnson serves as an ex-officio member. Taxing entities in Galveston County may cast a number of ballots based on their percentage of the overall tax levy of the county.

The city commission voted to approve a revised contract with the Galveston County Health District for water pollution control and abatement services.

The revised contract includes an annual fee of $34,685 to be paid by the city for services.

The city commission voted to reject all bids received for an annual contract for water and sewer line repair materials, and to rebid the contract with changed specifications.

The bids all failed to meet specifications on one or more items.

All other items were approved. All votes were unanimous with all members present. Agenda

During the meeting, the city commission recognized Anita Cook for receiving the 2017 Texas Court Clerks Association Distinguished Service Award.
