Friday, November 10, 2017

Galveston City Council on Thursday voted unanimously to modify the specific use permit granted under Ordinance Number 15-004, relating to the Sturgis Mh-1a Vessel located at Pier 41, in the Port Of Galveston “Heavy Industrial” Zoning District.

Catherine Gorman of the Planning & Development Division explained that the dismantling of the Sturgis is coming to an end and the applicants have requested to remove the requirement to have a guard, a guard house, and fencing. Gorman said the project is slated to be completed next month.

The city council voted 5-2, with Mayor James Yarbrough and Amy Bly opposed, to grant a variance to sell alcoholic beverages to the property located at 5806 Stewart Road.

The city council voted unanimously to authorize the city manager to execute an interlocal cooperation agreement with the University of Texas Medical Branch for Island Transit fixed route services.

The city council voted 6-0-1, with Frank Maceo abstaining, to appoint Peggy Healy to the Landmark Commission.

The city council deferred the following two items:

  • Consider for approval an ordinance of the City of Galveston, Texas, amending Chapter 10, “Building Code,” Article V. “Dangerous Building Code”, of the Code of the City Of Galveston, 1982; as amended, to add provisions for the regulation of substandard buildings.
  • Consideration of a resolution of the city council of the City of Galveston, Texas, approving and ratifying the agreement proposed between the City of Galveston and Randy Williams, trustee in Case No. 09-35324.

All other agenda items were approved unanimously with all members present. Regular Meeting Agenda Regular Meeting Video
