Harris County District Clerk Chris Daniel Names New Assistant Director of Communications

HOUSTON - Harris County District Clerk Chris Daniel today announced that he had named Marc Cowart to be the new Assistant Director of Communications at the Harris County District Clerk’s Office (DCO), replacing Bill Murphy who resigned earlier in the year to pursue endeavors outside the DCO.  As Assistant Director of Communications, Cowart will handle internal and external communications including press releases, media advisories, media inquiries for information and documents, public awareness campaigns, social media, newsletters, and any other duties deemed relevant by the District Clerk.

Cowart has an extensive background in communications in both the public and private sectors, primarily with political organizations and campaigns and most recently as a consultant and principal with The Cowart Group, a political and communications consulting firm.  About his new position with the DCO, Cowart remarked, “I have great respect for the work that Chris Daniel has done since being elected Harris County District Clerk and I am thrilled to be a part of his team.”  Cowart went on to say that he looks forward to working with members of the media and provided the following contact information: Office 832-927-5763, cell 832-367-4823 and e-mail Marc.Cowart@HCDistrictClerk.com.

About the Harris County District Clerk’s Office (DCO)
The DCO has jurisdiction over the summoning of prospective jurors for 76 courts.  Additionally, the DCO is responsible for custodial care of all court records for 60 District Courts and 16 County Criminal Courts located in Harris County and maintenance of the Historical Documents Room which houses historical documents from 1837-1925.  In conjunction with its court duties, the office also accounts for all monies paid as deposits on civil cases (causes) awaiting disposition and all funds awarded minors in court action that are paid into the court registry.   The DCO also has the important responsibility of providing customer service to all child support cases (causes) heard in Harris County.  Since taking office as Harris County District Clerk Chris Daniel has also expanded the duties of the office to process passport applications, making the process more convenient for Harris County residents.
