Port of Houston Authority
by Garrett Bryce
Tuesday, November 14, 2017

The Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority today voted unanimously to adopt the port's proposed FY2018 Operating and Capital Budget.

The port is anticipating growth of 9 percent over the 2017 mid-year forecast, fueled by container activity at the port. The port is also anticipating resin production to increase in 2018.

The port's expenses are budgeted to increase by 8 percent, primarily due to operations growth and terminal and asset investments. Budget Presentation

The budget forecasts revenues of $374 million, as the 2017 mid-year forecast had predicted $345 million. Expenses for the budget are forecast to total $284 million.

The budget projects cash flow of $157.8 million.

The port commission discussed, but took no action regarding the port's 5-year operating and capital plan.

The port commission voted unanimously to approve increases in tariff charges, including dockage, wharfage, throughput charges, container storage rates, container crane and private crane rental rates, water hookup rates, freight handling rates, and miscellaneous other tariff charges, at amounts equal to the change in the Consumer Price Index average for a 12-month period ending October 2017.

The increases are to take effect January 1.

The port commission took no action resulting from executive session discussions held during the meeting.

No other action items were on the agenda. Commissioner John Kennedy was absent. Agenda
