Cmr. George P. Bush: Texas VLB continues payment deferral initiative
for Veterans affected by Hurricane Harvey

Affected Veterans should call 800-252-VETS (8387) for more information and to find help

AUSTIN - Land Commissioner and Veterans' Land Board Chairman George P. Bush wants Texas Veterans to know that the Veterans' Land Board Land (VLB) and its Veterans' Housing Assistance Program (VHAP) are stepping up to help Texas veteran borrowers affected by Hurricane Harvey. In times of disaster, the VLB has always been willing to work with veteran borrowers facing difficulties. That is why the VLB currently has programs in place with its loan servicers to help veterans impacted by Hurricane Harvey to prevent foreclosure. Through its loan servicers, the VLB   provides affected veteran borrowers with payment relief options that include forbearance agreements and possible loan modifications.  In addition, the VLB's servicers will not report negative information to credit reporting agencies during a disaster-related forbearance period.

"Helping our Veterans own their own piece of Texas is one of the most important parts of my job as chairman of the VLB," said Commissioner Bush. "Our Veterans along the coast are hurting right now and we want to do our part to help. As someone who has lived through hurricanes, I know the losses from disasters are felt personally by families and communities. By allowing Veterans with VLB loans in FEMA designated counties to defer payment on their loans, we hope to eliminate one of the biggest worries a family faces at a time like this."

Since 1983, the VLB Veterans' Housing Assistance Program has offered competitive, low-interest rate loans requiring little or no down-payment to our nation's heroes. These loans allow eligible Texas Veterans, active-duty military personnel, and their spouses to own their own piece of Texas.
