Dickinson City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Friday, November 17, 2017

Dickinson City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to cast the city's 29 ballots in favor of re-electing Victor Pierson to the Galveston Central Appraisal District Board of Directors.

Pierson, along with Scott Brast, Clay Morrison, David Moss and Kevin Corcoran are seeking re-election to the five-member board, and Vaun Henry, Mary Trish Hanks, Roney McCrary and Bruce Clawson have also been nominated for election to the board. Galveston County Tax Assessor-Collector Cheryl Johnson also serves on the board as an ex-officio member. Taxing entities in Galveston County may cast a number of ballots based on their percentage of the overall tax levy of the county.

The city council voted unanimously to ratify the actions of the assistant city manager in executing an emergency relief grant agreement with Petsmart Charities, Inc. for pets affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Petsmart Charities will provide $25,000 to be used for the approximately 500 shelter and community owned pets affected by flooding from the storm.

The city council voted unanimously to authorize the submission of an application to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs for the HOME Program.

The program provides disaster relief funds to assist with the rehabilitation or reconstruction of existing housing.

The city council voted unanimously to waive the drainage fee for the 2017 calendar year due to the impact of Hurricane Harvey. The waiver will impact the FY2017 Budget by approximately $200,000.

The city council took no action resulting from executive session discussions to consult with the city attorney regarding pending litigation and to deliberate the appointment of the city administrator.

All other action items were approved. All votes were unanimous with Council Member William King, III absent. Agenda
