Fort Bend County
Sugar Land city Council
by Garrett Bryce
Wednesday, November 22, 2017

Sugar Land City Council on Tuesday voted 4-2-1, with Carol McCutcheon and Amy Mitchell opposed, and Mary Joyce abstaining, to engage the firm of Whitley Penn, LLP to review the calculations performed and presented to the city council relating to the annexation of Greatwood and New Territory.

The contract is in the amount of $7,500.

A motion to defer the item failed, with only Joyce, McCutcheon and Mitchell voting in favor of deferral.

The contract is to review the financial data and processes utilized for annexation, after the integrity of the numbers used and the financial impact of the annexation of Greatwood and New Territory on the city's finances were questioned.

The city council voted unanimously to award a $700,000 contract to Si Environmental, LLC for the operation and maintenance of the Greatwood and New Territory wastewater treatment facilities.

The city councilv oted unanimously to award a $470,600 contract to Matula and Matula Construction, Inc. for the Business Park Storm Water Pump Station Improvements Project.

The city council voted unanimously to authorize the issuance of refunding bonds.

The bonds would refinance approximately $80.9 million in existing debt at a reduced interest rate to provide cost savings to the city.

The city council voted 6-0-1, with Steve Porter abstaining, to approve, on first reading, an ordinance rezoning approximately 3.5 acres of property located along the west side of Dairy Ashford Drive and south of Corporate Drive from a Business Office District to a Restricted Industrial District.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present, though Porter was away from the table for several votes. Agenda
