41st Turkey Bowl in Galveston

It was a glorious day for the playing of the the 41st Turkey Bowl at Adoue Park from 10am to Noon on Thanksgiving Day.

Approximately 80 adults, 13 children and 5 dogs participated in the flag football game. The game is hosted by Kathy Tiernan and Peaches Kempner.

Shrub Kempner is the referee for life. Anne Anderson is the Homecoming Queen for life. The flag football game has its own special set of rules, including no rough playing, a mandatory kids play and you get one set of downs to make it to midfield for a first down.

As always there was a halftime group photograph and awards and certificates for everyone that attended.

Kathy Tiernan said that the Turkey Bowl tradition comes from my family in Oakmont, Pa.

"Traditions are an awesome way to plan happiness. You don't make friends or traditions without inviting people back," Shannon Trilli Kempner said "the way I see it, you can either marry into Galveston or earn your citizenship through the Turkey Bowl. For the record I started with the Turkey Bowl."
