Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting Incident at 2100 Cohn

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested after he was identified in a social media video firing gunshots near a park and residences at 2100 Cohn about 10:15 p.m. on November 20.

The suspect, Edwin Alexander Ospino Soto (b/m, 22), is charged with deadly conduct in the 351st State District Court.  A photo of Ospino Soto is attached to this news release.

HPD Major Assaults Unit Investigator D. Morrison reported:

Officer responded to a discharge of firearms call at the above address but did not locate anyone in the area who had discharged a gun.  It was later discovered a video had been uploaded to a social media site of a male firing a weapon in the area and shooting in the direction of houses near Cottage Grove Park.  The male is clearly shown on the video and his distinctive tattoos were also visible.

After the video was released to Crime Stoppers, a tip was received identifying the suspect as Ospino Soto.  HPD officers were then able to locate and arrest Ospino Soto last Wednesday (Nov. 22) without incident.

Anyone with additional information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Major Assaults Unit at 713-308-3600.
