Dickens on The Strand to Transform Downtown This Weekend

GALVESTON, Texas – With a nod to the ghost of Dickens past and an eye towards the future, Galveston’s world famous Victorian holiday festival returns to Galveston Island December 1-3, 2017. This annual holiday street festival, based on 19th-century Victorian London, features parades, non-stop entertainment on six stages, strolling carolers, roving musicians, bagpipers, jugglers and a host of other entertainers. Costumed vendors peddle their wares from street stalls and rolling carts laden with holiday food and drink, Victorian-inspired crafts, clothing, jewelry, holiday decorations and gift items.

Street Closures

The festival will be held from 5-10pm on Friday, 10am to 9pm on Saturday, 12pm to 6pm on Sunday. Beginning on Friday at 12pm the following streets will be closed while crowds enjoy the festivities:

·         The Strand from 25th to 20th Streets

·         Mechanic from 25th to 20th Streets

·         All side streets from Harborside To Mechanic between, but not including, 25th and 20th Streets

The following street closures will begin at 8am on Friday, December 1st:

·         22nd Street between Strand and Mechanic

·         23rd Street between Strand and Mechanic

All streets will reopen by midnight on Sunday, December 3rd.
