The Board of Trustees of the Galveston Wharves today voted 5-2, with Mayor Jim Yarbrough and Todd Sullivan opposed, to approve the 2018 Operating, Renewal & Replacement and Capital Improvements Budget.

The board voted unanimously to file an engagement letter from the firm of Whitley Penn, P.C. to audit the financial statements of the board, the Galveston Port Facilities Corporation, the Federal Single Source Audit, and the Annual Defined Benefit Pension Plan Audit for the year ending December 31, 2017.

The board voted 5-2, with Albert Shannon and Richard DeVries opposed, to approve a proposal in which it will meet at Galveston City Hall for six months with Swagit Productions, LLC providing video streaming, archiving, and indexing services.

The change in venue and videographer, which will take effect in April, will serve as a money-saving measure for the port.

The board voted unanimously to approve a proposal by PND Engineers, Inc. for an amount not to exceed $122,694.08 for the engineering design and construction support services for the Carnival Vista CTI wharf improvements.

The board voted unanimously to approve a master services agreement with J&J Telecommunications, Inc. for telephone communications and Internet services for a period of six months with an effective date of December 2, 2017.

Shannon abstained on an item approving the minutes of the October 30, 2017 regular meeting while Elizabeth Beeton abstained on an item deferring the strategic planning process until after the hiring of a permanent port director.

The board took no action on items relating to the Galveston Wharves Human Resources Policy Manual and port pension plans.

All other agenda items were approved unanimously.
