Jefferson County Commissioners Court today voted unanimously to authorize audits for the collection of delinquent hotel occupancy taxes.

According to the resolution, the Jefferson County Tax Assessor-Collector has reported “that there are numerous hotels and motels who have not filed the mandated reports and who are delinquent in paying hotel taxes.” Resolution

The commissioners court voted unanimously to adopt an order levying taxes for the issuance of $60,150,000 in unlimited tax port improvement bonds for the Port of Port Arthur Navigation District.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to adopt an order establishing the Dow Chemical Reinvestment Zone. The zone will allow the county and other taxing entities to provide tax abatement for eligible improvements to the property within the zone.

The commissioners court tabled action regarding a contract amendment under the Texas Community Development Block Grant program to authorize payments for necessary easements for the related project.

The easements are required for a low pressure sewer service line and individual grinder units to be accessed by the West Jefferson County Municipal Water District, which will own and maintain the improvements. While several property owners donated easements, some accepted a cash offer for purchase of the property required.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to approve specifications for statements of qualifications for professional engineering and architectural design services for the county in response to Hurricane Harvey.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to award a $426,400 contract to Goss Building, Inc. for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Hangar Building at Jack Brooks Regional Airport.

The project is being funded through the 2015 Port Security Grant with a local match from the Jefferson County Marine Unit.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to renew a contract with John Paul’s Food Service, LLC for snack and drink vending machines for the county.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to adopt a proclamation for the Tzu Chi Foundation in recognition of the foundation’s fundraising efforts to assist those affected by Hurricane Harvey.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to adopt a resolution commending Patricia Nantz for her 20 years of service to the county and wishing her well in her retirement.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to adopt a resolution recognizing Chief Pilot Jerry Hinson for more than 29 years of service to the Jefferson County Mosquito Control District and wishing him well in his retirement.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to adopt a resolution recognizing Deputy William B. Eichelberger for more than 22 years of service to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and wishing him well in his retirement.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to adopt a resolution recognizing Sergeant Paul D. Stephenson for more than 29 years of service and wishing him well in his retirement.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to adopt a resolution recognizing Deputy James H. LeBlanc for more than 33 years of service and wishing him well in his retirement.
