Subject Set on Fire By Suspect, Charges Expected Soon

Early Tuesday morning, November 28th 2017, at approximately 5:55am, the Galveston Police Department received a 911 call from a male subject in the 500 block of 21st St stating that someone had just lit him on fire. Galveston EMS and the Galveston Fire Department arrived on scene and found the subject with burns to his hands and face and one of his articles of clothing still on fire. Galveston Fire Department quickly extinguished the remaining fire while Galveston EMS began treating the victim before transporting him to the John Sealy Emergency Room.

Investigators with the Galveston Police Department and the Galveston Fire Marshall’s office responded to the scene to begin processing the area for forensic evidence and to begin collecting witness statements. The Galveston PD Major Crimes Investigators are currently pursuing a solid lead containing a known suspect and expect to have the suspect charged very soon. The most likely charge in this case would be Aggravated Assault causing Serious Bodily Injury, a first degree felony in the state of Texas, which carries a punishment of five to 99 years in prison with a $10,000 fine.

An updated release will be sent out with more information when a suspect has been charged. The victims injuries were serious but non-life threatening.
