Galveston County Transit District Board of Directors
by John David Suayan
Thursday, November 30, 2017

The Galveston County Transit District Board of Directors on Wednesday voted unanimously to appoint Sean Middleton as the administrator of the GCTD.

Middleton is a Senior Associate at The Goodman Corporation. An Air Force veteran, he previously worked with the Federal Aviation Administration and the Houston-Galveston Area Council.

The board voted unanimously to approve a resolution calling on the Houston-Galveston Area Council to consider amending the prospective investment matrix for the 2019-2022 Transportation Improvement Program next discretionary call.

The board voted unanimously to recognize outgoing members James Hollis and Michael Worthy.

Hollis is retiring as Transportation Director for Connect Transit while Worthy is retiring as General Manager of Island Transit. Worthy was absent, and Galveston City Council Member Carolyn Sunseri accepted a plaque from the GCTD on his behalf.

Transportation consultant Barry Goodman of The Goodman Corporation provided an update on the new intercity bus service between Galveston and Houston.

“What I was told today by John Carrara is that the ridership numbers are actually hitting the year one projections of 20 riders a day,” said Goodman. “There are no days that have no riders. This has, in my opinion, turned out to be very successful. What needs to happen is a lot more marketing and promotion.”

The next meeting of the GCTD will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the Mid-County Annex in Texas City.
