UHCL College of Education recognizes scholarship winners

HOUSTON — The University of Houston-Clear Lake's College of Education celebrated its Success Through Education Programs’ (STEP) fall semester with a luncheon recognizing its scholarship recipients. STEP is a collaborative effort between UH-Clear Lake, five area school districts, and five community colleges designed to create opportunities for students to explore teaching as a profession and to prepare them to become certified teachers.

The fall event gave STEP students an opportunity to mingle, meet faculty and staff, and receive tips for academic success. The program included a dynamic and inspirational presentation delivered by Ron Klinger, chief engagement officer of Transitional Motivations, which encouraged the future educators to let their “Super Self” shine through in their classrooms. Pictured with UHCL College of Education Associate Dean and Professor Joan Y. Pedro (center) are STEP scholarship winners (l-r) Shanael Williams, Hortencia Armenta, Jazmin Camaal, Gretchen Hardy, Nancy Vega and Adriana Chapa. Other winners not pictured: Brittnai Brown, Eva Castellanos, Marianna Hammel, John Jaramillo, Nguyen Van and Jennifer Villarreal.

UH-Clear Lake STEP partners include Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District and Lee College, Galveston Independent School District and Galveston College, Galena Park Independent School District and San Jacinto College North Campus, San Jacinto College South Campus, Santa Fe Independent School District, Houston Independent School District and Houston Community College-Southeast.
