Pasadena City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to approve, on first reading, to extend a contract with Acadian Ambulance Service for ambulance and emergency medical services.

Council Member Sammy Casados noted that the item had been deferred some months back and he had spoken with the city's emergency services staff concerning Acadian. He said that there would be increases to the rates for ambulance and emergency medical services.

“As we all know, medical costs and things of that nature are going up, gas prices go up, they fluctuate, and do things of that nature,” he said. “I will be supporting this, I just wanted to let the city of Pasadena know that there is an increase that the city will be incurring.” Listen (3:25)

Council Member Don Harrison stated that he would support the item on first reading, but review it prior to the second and final reading. He noted that high costs are being assessed for such services.

“I think we've got to really look at this before we just give it blanket approval,” Harrison said.

The city council voted unanimously to approve progress payments on various contracts for projects underway in the city, including:

The city council voted unanimously to approve, on final reading, a grant agreement with the Texas Department of Public Safety for the FY2017 Emergency Management Performance Grant of $49,475.
