Annual Dickinson Festival of Lights Celebrates Christmas Joy
by Ruth Ann Ruiz
Saturday, December 09, 2017

Dickinson Light FestivalSome of the best things in life it is said are free and once again the Dickinson Festival of Lights is demonstrating this to be true. Since 1998 Dickinson Festival of Lights Society has brightly proclaimed the spirit of the Christmas season to visitors with no admission charge. This year, though Hurricane Harvey devastated the small town of Dickinson, the lights are shining brilliantly.

“Those of us on the board of directors lost everything in Harvey,” said board president, Ken Suderman. “We wouldn’t think of doing anything other than putting this on for the start of a bright new year.”

Winding open-air tunnels of twinkling lights lead visitors over bridges viewing lighted displays of Christmas traditions, then into a lighted ice castle for family photos and a traditional visit with Santa himself. Warm ups of hot cocoa and other holiday treats are offered at family-friendly prices.

The event is held at Paul Hopkins Park.  There is no parking at the park.  Visitors are encouraged to use the free parking and free shuttle service provided by the Dickinson Plaza Shopping Center. The festival will run nightly December 15 through December 23 with shuttle pickups starting at 6:00p.m. and ending at 8:30p.m. Shows have been running on weekends since November 25th.
