by John David Suayan
Monday, December 11, 2017

The Board of Trustees of the Galveston Wharves, in a special meeting held today, voted unanimously to hire Rodger Rees as the new Director of the Port of Galveston.

Rees will assume the position previously held by Michael Mierzwa, who retired last year. Peter Simons is currently serving as the Interim Port Director.

Rees currently serves as deputy executive director and chief financial officer at Port Canaveral in Florida.

The board also unanimously approved Rees’s salary, which will be set at $240,000 a year.

Rees’s first day will be in January.

The board commended Simons for his service following Mierzwa’s retirement.
