Jefferson County
Beaumont City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Tuesday, December 12, 2017

Beaumont City Council today voted unanimously to award a $1,708,872 contract to Horseshoe Construction, Inc. for the pipe bursting work order.

The contract will be used to rehabilitate sewer lines through the pipe bursting method and to replace defective manholes.

The city council voted to approve a $1,139,622 contract with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for stop loss insurance.

The city council voted to reject all bids received for the Sanitary Sewer Manhole Rehabilitation Work Order Contract.

The city council voted to approve an agreement with Capital Edge Advocacy, Inc. to provide services as the city's Washington assistant.

The contract is for a total amount of $68,400, as well as a maximum of $4,000 for reimbursable expenses.

The city council voted to authorize settlement of a claim involving Triad Transport. The item was discussed in executive session during the December 5 city council meeting. The city is accepting settlement of the claim in the amount of $2,700 to be paid to the city.

The city council voted to terminate the City of Beaumont Retirement Health Savings Plan and related Trust.

The city had initiated a Retirement Health Savings Plan in 2003. In 2008 the city suspended employee contributions to the plan, but those employees who had already contributed to the plan could keep their funds in the plan until they were drawn out for qualified retiree health costs. The last employee with funds remaining in the plan withdrew their funds this year.

The city council voted to amend the city's Code of Ordinances related to Animal Care Fees.

The amendments include the addition of a trap rental fee, and to increase the administrative fee to $10 and the refundable usage fee to $89.95. Also, the fees will be amended to add a fee for heartworm and FIV/feline leukemia testing.

All items were approved. All votes were unanimous with Council Member Gethrel Williams-Wright absent. Agenda
