Galveston City Council, during its workshop today, talked about an ordinance to add provisions for the regulation of substandard buildings in Chapter 10 of the city code.

Assistant City Attorney Donna Fairweather provided the city council documentation comparing old and new versions of the ordinance. Listen (38:15)

“The mayor wanted to know what exactly has changed from this ordinance to what we previously had,” said Fairweather.

She added the impetus behind the ordinance is to have the codes in an accessible place for citizens and visitors.

The city council discussed an ordinance to amend the 2015 Galveston Land Development Regulations, as amended, to update, revise and clarify those provisions regulating land development activity within the city.

Dustin Henry, Coastal Resource Manager with the Planning and Development Division of the Department of Development Services, spoke with the city council about the draft of the city’s Dune Protection and Beach Access Plan.

Deputy City Manager Dan Buckley updated the city council on a donation from the Moody Foundation to the Galveston County recovery for the benefit of the city and its employees suffering Hurricane Harvey related losses.

The city council also discussed the scheduling of two special meetings next month, the water leak from the abandoned water line at Saladia and Avenue Q, and the juvenile curfew ordinance.

The city council met in executive session, but took no subsequent action.
