Leang Ear earned METRO Hero Award.

Leang "Terry" Ear accepted the METRO Hero Award at the Board of Directors Meeting today. The METRORail technician helped pull two people from a burning car after an accident on Nov. 20, 2017.  Even after the packed boardroom gave Ear a standing ovation, he insisted his actions were not heroic.

"I'm a husband. I'm a father. I think anyone would have done that," said 44 year-old Ear.

Relatives of the driver see things differently.

The accident happened shortly after 3 a.m. while Ear was working his overnight shift. He was driving near the intersection of Harrisburg and 66th Street, when another man flagged him down. Smoke began billowing out of the car and the doors wouldn't open.

"My thinking was, get them out as soon as you can. Hopefully you can get them out," Ear explained.

Both victims survived and have been released from the hospital.
