Port Arthur City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Friday, December 29, 2017

Port Arthur City Council, in a special meeting on Thursday, voted unanimously to increase the authorized number of sworn officers allotted at the Port Arthur Police Department to 131, by adding a lieutenant and two sergeant positions.

The department currently has an authorized staff of 128 sworn officers. The additional lieutenant position would be assigned to Narcotics, Street Crimes and Community Response special units. One sergeant position would work directly with the new lieutenant position, while the other would be assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Joint Terrorism Task Force.

The city council voted unanimously to amend an industrial district agreement with Oxbow Calcining, LLC to extend the agreement for one additional year. The agreement was entered into January 1, 2014, with the current extension ending on December 31. The new amendment extends the agreement through December 30, 2018.

The city council voted unanimously to extend the city's industrial district agreement with GT Logistics, LLC and Golden Triangle Properties for another year.

The city council voted unanimously to remove from the agenda an ordinance annexing several tracts of land for various chemical plant facilities operating under industrial district agreements. The item was removed as agreements were extended with the companies involved.

No other action items were on the agenda. All members were present. Agenda
