Deer Park City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Wednesday, January 03, 2018

Deer Park City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to award a $554,809 contract to Mills Development for the first phase of the Deer Park Nature Preserve.

The city had received five bids on the first phase of the preserve, which is to be located near the southeast intersection of East Boulevard and 13th Street.

The city council voted to adopt a resolution to seek funds through the STEP Traffic Enforcement Grant for FY2019.

The Deer Park Police Department is requesting $44,999 in grant funds this year, which will require an in-kind match of city funding for a total of $47,670. The grant provides funds for overtime salary costs for increased traffic patrols in areas of Deer Park known for a history of excessive speeding.

The city council voted to amend the city’s Zoning Ordinance to allow heliports/helistops to be allowed as an accessory structure in the Commercial Zoning District with a specific use permit. A local developer is requesting the amendment in order to build a freestanding emergency care clinic with a helistop/heliport.

The city council voted to grant a specific use permit to allow the construction of a bulk warehouse at 4600 Underwood Road.

All items were approved. All votes were unanimous with council members Thane Harrison and Ron Martin absent. Agenda
