Brazoria County
Pearland City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Tuesday, January 09, 2018

Pearland City Council on Monday voted unanimously to extend a temporary waiver of building permit fees for all building inspections fees associated with the repair of homes and businesses damaged from Hurricane Harvey.

The extension takes place retroactively from December 1 until May 31.

The city council voted 6-1, with Gary Moore opposed, to award a $134,494 contract to Rubber Flooring Systems, Inc. for the removal and installation of a new running track at the Recreation Center and Natatorium.

The city council voted 6-1, with Moore opposed, on two items related to authorizing the use of eminent domain to acquire parcels of land in the Lower Kirby District for the purpose of construction public improvements.

The parcels are narrow portions of land that would not meet minimum lot size requirements. The properties are being assembled for future use as a possible multi-use events center.

The city council voted unanimously to approve a reimbursement agreement with the Pearland Economic Development Corporation for the acquisition of property for public services to serve the Lower Kirby vicinity.

Under the agreement, the corporation will provide the city the funds to finance the cost of the acquisition of the land in the Lower Kirby District.

The city council voted unanimously to authorize the city's legal department to proceed as discussed in executive session regarding pending and potential litigation.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present. Agenda

In a special meeting held prior to the regular meeting, the city council met in executive session to discuss appointments to city boards of commissions. The city council took no action resulting from the discussions. Agenda
