Galveston Fire Station No. 1 Groundbreaking Ceremony
by Garrett Bryce w/photos and audio by Juan Peña
Thursday, January 11, 2018

The City of Galveston on Tuesday held a groundbreaking ceremony for the future Fire Station No. 1, which will be located at 2600 Sealy.

The location is across the street from the existing facility, which was built in 1964. The new station, which houses Engine 1, Tower 1 and Battalion 1, will provide a modern, fully equipped facility. News Release

Mayor Jim Yarbrough discussed plans for improvements to the city's fire stations, including Fire Station No. 2. He noted that the station is being funded through Community Development Block Grant proceeds.

“Here we're finally making rubber hit the road, and I look forward to coming to the ribbon cutting, not just the groundbreaking,” Yarbrough said of the project. Listen (15:15)

Juan Peña provided audio and photos of the event.
