La Marque Alumni Association Hosting 5th Annual MLK Day Parade January 15, 2018
Parade begins at La Marque High School and ends at Bell Zion Baptist Church in Texas City

La Marque, Texas — La Marque Alumni Association is hosting the fifth annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade on Monday, January 15, 2018. Parade lineup begins at La Marque High School parking lot, 300 Vauthier Road, and ends at Bell Zion Baptist Church, 5917 Carver Avenue in Texas City. A MLK Day celebration will be held at the church immediately following the parade featuring Big Phil's Smokehouse, Warrens Catering offering fried fish and shrimp, Cipe cakes & more..., Krystal Collins Massage and Washington's Bounce House. According to event organizers, the 2018 "Promoting Your King Day of Service,” theme will focus on giving back to the community.

“We would like to invite each of you to come out and support this event, said Parade Chairman Nakisha Paul. “This is a community wide event designed to celebrate the teachings, life and legacy of Dr. King. Our goal is to encourage participation in some kind of volunteerism this year. For example, La Marque Alumni Association plans to give back to our community’s elders in 2018!”

La Marque Alumni Association is accepting parade entries. All entries are free but an application is required. To apply, email nakisha_paul@yahoo.com or call 409-766-0049. Line-up starts at 8:00 a.m. in the La Marque High School parking lot and the parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. sharp. Parade Application

Parade Rules:

  • Every motor vehicle must have current insurance coverage
  • Drivers must have a valid driver’s license
  • Each car or truck entry must have signage indicating what group you represent 
  • All vehicles must be clean
  • Decorations preferred but not required
  • All participants must complete the entire parade route

On this day, we commemorate Dr. King’s great dream of a vibrant, multiracial nation united in justice, peace and reconciliation; a nation that has a place at the table for children of every race and room at the inn for every needy child. We are called on this holiday, not merely to honor, but to celebrate the values of equality, tolerance and interracial sister and brotherhood he so compellingly expressed in his great dream for America. - CORETTA SCOTT KING
