Should We Be Optimistic or Pessimistic about Houston's Future?
by Bill King
Monday, January 15, 2018

From time to time I will hear from a reader asking why I am so negative about Houston.  That is not the way I feel, but I can understand how it might seem that way.  In part it is because I view my role as a voice to point out the challenges we face as a region.  We have enough blithering, chamber-of-commerce boosters anxious to gloss over anything that might generate any negative publicity.

But it is true that I am concerned about the region's future because we face some daunting challenges.  Houston's future will depend to a great degree on how we address those challenges.

In the wake of such an extraordinary year, it seems an apropos time to ask: Based on everything we experienced in 2017, should we be optimistic or pessimistic about the future of our region?
