Historic low temperatures result in new winter peak demand record for ERCOT region

AUSTIN, Texas – ERCOT set multiple new winter peak demand records last night and this morning.

The record is now 65,731* MW, set between 7 and 8 a.m. this morning. This is significantly higher than the record set during the cold snap earlier this month, which was 62,855* MW.

During this week’s winter weather event, ERCOT had sufficient generation and transmission resources available to keep up with demand. As always, ERCOT closely monitors system conditions and coordinates with generators and transmission operators to help ensure grid reliability.

Consumers may view real-time ERCOT grid conditions by downloading the ERCOT app or by visiting the home page of the ERCOT website (www.ercot.com).

*These numbers are preliminary and subject to change pending final settlement in the ERCOT market.
