Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Stabbing at 3131 Hayes

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal stabbing of a man at 3131 Hayes about 11:50 p.m. on Sunday.

The suspect, Deaira Pitts (b/f, 21), is charged with murder in the 337th State District Court for her role in the killing of her boyfriend, Michael Simmons, 27.

A booking photo of Pitts is attached to this news release.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Meek and Detective S. Overstreet reported:

Officers responded to a person down call at the above address and found Mr. Simmons, who had been stabbed multiple times.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  Officers learned Simmons had forced his way into his apartment after his girlfriend, Pitts, refused to let him in.  While inside the apartment, there was a physical altercation between Simmons and another friend visiting with Pitts at the time.  During the altercation, Pitts stabbed Simmons multiple times.  Paramedics arrived and pronounced Simmons deceased.

Further investigation led to charges being filed against Pitts and she was taken into custody on Thursday (Jan. 18) without incident.
