Man Shot And Killed By League City Police Officer Identified

On January 23, 2018, at approximately 5:20 PM an attempted robbery occurred at 1295 East League City Parkway. After demanding the victims keys to her vehicle and hitting the female victim in the head with a pipe, the suspect fled on foot in a southeast direction. A description of the suspect was broadcast on police radio. While searching a nearby neighborhood, a League City Police Officer located a person matching the clothing and physical description of the suspect. The officer initiated contact with the suspect in the 1600 block of Laslina Ln. As the officer attempted to detain the suspect, the suspect attacked and attempted to disarm the officer, which resulted in the shooting death of the suspect. The deceased suspect was later identified as 18-year-old Alvaro Herrera of Dickinson Texas. League City Police Detectives confirmed that Herrera was responsible for the robbery of and assault on the victim at CVS.

As is standard operating procedure, the officer involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave.

Update To Officer Involved Shooting

As per standard operating procedure, nine year veteran League City Police Officer Stephen Massey, is on administrative leave while the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office investigates the January 23, 2018, officer-involved shooting in League City.
