Elementary and Primary Education
Galveston ISD Board of Trustees
by Garrett Bryce
Thursday, January 25, 2018

The Galveston Independent School District Board of Trustees on Wednesday voted 5-0-1, with Anthony Brown abstaining, to nominate Johnny Smecca to the Galveston Central Appraisal District Board of Directors.

The board voted 5-1, with Ken Jencks opposed, to extend the district's contract with Superintendent Dr. Kelli Moulton through the 2019-2020 school year. The extension would be for essentially one year beyond Moulton's current term which expires at the end of the 2018-2019 school year.

The agenda item was originally for a two-year extension, ending in the 2020-2021 school year. However, a motion was made to amend the item to a one-year extension.

Board members stressed that they were pleased with Moulton's performance, and that additional extensions would be considered.

The board voted unanimously to approve the district's Annual Financial Report for FY2017. The district received an unmodified opinion, the highest assurance that the district's financial statements accurately reflected the financial status of the district for the year.

The board voted unanimously to approve a turnaround plan and resolution for the Coastal Village Elementary.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. Trustee Mary Cazares was absent. Agenda
