City of Houston Hosts "Resilient Houston"  Hazard Mitigation Workshop

HOUSTON - As our area bounces back from the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey, the City of Houston is improving its strategy to limit the effects of natural disasters on our community. As the data from the effects of Harvey becomes better know, the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will be amending the Hazard Mitigation Action Plan (HMAP), which outlines a plan for reducing risk through a variety of projects. We are looking for Houstonians’ help in ensuring the needs of the whole community are met as we embark on these important changes.

OEM is hosting a workshop, open to the public, where residents can:

  • Contribute written or in-person comment to the City’s Hazard Mitigation Action Plan Amendment
  • Assess their home’s risk from flooding, wildfire, storm surge, and other natural hazards
  • Speak one-on-one with representatives from various agencies (such as the National Weather Service, Houston Fire Department, Houston Public Works, Office of Emergency Management and more!) and learn more about steps they can take to reduce their family’s risk.

The workshop will take place:

Wednesday, January 31st
6:00pm - 8:00pm

United Way of Greater Houston
50 Waugh Drive
Houston, TX 77008

To RSVP (not required) or download and read the Hazard Mitigation Action Plan, visit houstonoem.org/mitigation.

Residents who plan on attending the meeting are asked to review the plan at
houstonoem.org/mitigation before attending.
