Single Fatality Confirmed in Vehicle that Drove Over the Seawall

At approximately 3:55 pm on Tuesday afternoon, January 30th, 2018, the Galveston Police Department received several calls that a vehicle had just driven over the wall in the 9500 block of Seawall Blvd.  Officers arrived only moments after the call and found the Chevrolet Colorado pick-up truck heavily damaged and on fire, resting on the rocks below the wall.  The fire quickly engulfed the vehicle until firefighters with the Galveston Fire Department arrived and extinguished the blaze. Galveston EMS promptly attended to the sole occupant but discovered he was deceased.

The driver of the vehicle, a Galveston resident, was identified as a 47-year-old male.  Witnesses to the crash stated that the Chevrolet Colorado was traveling eastbound in the right lane of Seawall Blvd when the vehicle abruptly swerved left to pass another car traveling in the same lane.  Witnesses state that it appeared the driver went into the center lane, over-corrected, and lost control, sending then pick-up over the wall.  No other vehicles were involved in the accident an no one else was injured.  Investigators with the Galveston Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team arrived to process the scene; however, it does not appear that any charges will be filed at this time.
