Port Arthur City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to appoint Mayor Derrick Freeman and Council Member Charlotte Moses to the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission Executive Committee.

The city council voted unanimously to appoint Deborah Valcin to the Pleasure Island Advisory Committee.

The city council voted unanimously to appoint Deborah Valcin to the Beautification Commission. Valcin was nominated by Moses for both positions.

The city council voted unanimously to confirm the appointment of Richard Williams to the Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals. Williams was nominated by Mayor Pro Tem Cal Jones.

The city council voted 2-7, with only Willie “Bae” Lewis and Cal Jones voting in favor of approval, to approve an ordinance adding the Port Arthur Electrical Advisory Board as a board of the city.

The city council voted unanimously to grant a specific use permit for approximately 2.765 acres of land at 8660 South 1st Avenue to allow the installation and maintenance of three above-ground 10,000 gallon fuel storage tanks in the Industrial District.

During the meeting, the city council held discussion regarding flooding that occurred during the previous weekend in Port Arthur.

The city council also received a presentation by Christopher Breaux of Whitley Penn, LLP regarding the FY2016 Audit. Breaux announced that the city received an unmodified, or “clean” opinion on the city's financial statements, the highest level of assurance that the city's financial statements indicate that the amounts presented by the city are fairly stated in all material respects.
