Washington D.C.
Representative John Culberson Statement on Passage of Continuing Resolution
Press Release
Tuesday, February 06, 2018

Washington D.C. - Representative John Culberson (TX-07) released the following statement today after the House of Representatives passed another short-term continuing resolution to fund the federal government until March 23, 2018:

“I voted for this continuing resolution to keep our government open, because I support our incredible men and women in uniform and the dedicated community health centers that serve over 27 million people across our nation.

“This legislation provides full year funding for the Department of Defense (DoD) and ensures that DoD has the resources it needs to operate at full capacity. By increasing troop pay and providing our armed forces with the resources and training they need, we’re securing the strength of our national defense. This bill also ensures two additional years of funding for community health centers. In 2016, over a half million TX-07 residents, a majority of whom are uninsured and live below the poverty line, received comprehensive primary and preventative health care service from such centers.

“I am disappointed that the Hurricane Harvey Emergency Supplemental, which the House passed more than a month ago, still has not been acted on in the Senate. Senate Democrats insist on blocking it because of a completely unrelated policy issue.

“Senator Schumer continues to use the 60-vote rule in the Senate to block every appropriations bill and the Hurricane Harvey relief bill. Many of my constituents are still living on the second floor of their flood-ravaged homes and they cannot afford to wait another day for disaster relief aid. To continue inducing unnecessary anxiety for Harvey survivors and our troops is shameful. I urge Senator Schumer to stop blocking the desperately needed Hurricane Harvey relief bill and our appropriations bills.”
