Rally for DJ-turned-Congressional Candidate Dayna Steele with “Crosby, Steele and Etheridge”
Press Release
Thursday, February 08, 2018

Dayna Steele campaign(Houston, Texas) February 7, 2018—Two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer David Crosby and Oscar/Grammy winner Melissa Etheridge rallied in support of Texas Radio Hall of Famer Dayna Steele and her campaign to become the first woman to represent Texas’ 36th Congressional District in Washington.  Less than a month before Steele’s March primary run for the Democratic ticket, the legendary rockers performed a pair of acoustic sets for a sold out crowd at a club venue in Steele’s district. Supporters paid $1,000 each for a private, pre-show meet and greet, with GA tickets offered at $101—a nod to the candidate’s successful, decade-long engagement at heritage AOR 101 KLOL in Houston.

Before the show, Steele explored the trio of friends’ unusual history during an onstage exchange that mirrored the rock talk format Steele debuted in 2016 with Bowie guitarist Earl Slick (see video here). Steele thanked Crosby for introducing her to her husband of 25 years, NASA Research Pilot Dr. Charles Justiz, then playfully discussed the unique Crosby-Etheridge family connection.

“I am so grateful to Melissa and Croz for lending their talent and support,” Steele said, “This is what true friends do for each other when so much is at stake. Redirecting the attention of this country’s leadership to the freedoms and needs of all Americans is going to be a district by district, office by office battle.  We’re starting with District 36 in Texas.”

The throng of supporters included former Houston Mayor Annise Parker, Judge George Risner, attorney Roland Garcia, David Mitcham from District Attorney Kim Ogg’s office, and Steele campaign treasurer Angela Berka.

To date, Dayna Steele has earned the endorsement of the Texas AFL-CIO COPE, Our Revolution Harris County, the Houston GLBT Caucus, the Texas Gulf Coast Area Labor Federation, and the Sabine Area Central Labor Council, among others.
