The Lasker Park Pool Prepares for a Fun Filled Swim Season

Galveston, Texas – On March 3rd, 2018, the Lasker Park Community Pool will open its doors the 2018 swim season. With swim lessons, fitness classes, and hours of family entertainment planned for the year, the first step has been to begin building a fantastic team.

The City has begun the process of hiring Lifeguards, Water Safety Instructors, Recreational Aides for office and concessions, as well as fitness instructors. All positions can be applied for online on the City’s website at www.galvestontx.gov/jobs.

Those interested in trying out for lifeguards can attend one of two tryouts to be held on March 4th and March 10th. Lifeguards are required to be 16 years old, perform a 300-yard swim in a front crawl, have the ability to tread water for two minutes and retrieve a brick from the bottom of the pool. Those applicants who pass the requirements will be invited to attend the Lifeguard Training Academy which will be offered on March 11th through March 15th. You can view more information about the lifeguard tryouts on our website at www.galvestontx.gov/lifeguard.

“These positions will offer more than just a job,” said Aquatics Manager, Erica Gentry. “Our vision to build a team that learns as much from our community as we can offer in return. This is a great place to build a resume, learn about team work, and give back to the place you call home.”
